Cinderella

What a joy yesterday hearing from you
Like a voice out of the past
You floated in on the telephone
Whoever thought such feelings could last, and last and last
Oh the pain yesterday hearing from you
So many years out the door
I know who you’re looking for
But I’m just not her anymore, not anymore
Cinderella doesn’t live here anymore
Cinderella doesn’t live here anymore
She was waiting while you traveled ‘round the world
Trying your glass slipper on so many girls
What an unexpected gift – you bared your heart
What’s bitter, time can make bittersweet
You could be a prince to someone
But that someone’s not me, no not me
Cinderella doesn’t live here anymore
Cinderella doesn’t live here anymore
She thought you would rescue her, that magic was real
When she stepped out of that story I could heal
This world is made of stories
In their enchantment we dwell
When you realize you’re in the wrong one
There’s no freedom like the breaking of the spell
Cinderella would have had to hang up on you
You’d hurt too much to allow
But what helps me make sense of her
Is always welcome to me now, I’m me now
Cinderella doesn’t live here anymore
Cinderella doesn’t live here anymore
Cinderella doesn’t live here anymore
